Cockfosters Depot Upgrade: Preparing for PLU

Multi-disciplinary concept and detailed design works to prepare Cockfosters Depot for the PLU.

Case overview

Ahead of the Piccadilly Line Upgrade, Cockfosters Depot is undergoing an upgrade to support the new fleet. A number of works are taking place at Cockfosters Depot as part of this upgrade, which Genesis are enabling through multi-disciplinary concept and detailed design works.

Wheel Lathe Facility: KEP Interlocking

The Wheel Lather Facility (WLF) will be crucial for maintaining an machining train wheelsets at Cockfosters Depot. Whilst design work have already been completed, Genesis are designing the Depot Plant and Equipment interlocking system. This system will ensure safety by preventing equipment from being powered on when other activities are underway. It will utilise a Key Exchange Panel (KEP) and local interlocking panels for each piece of equipment.

Substations

To power the new Wheel Lather Facility, a new Distribution Network Operator (DNO) supply is needed. Whilst the design of the cable and switchgear are complete, further civil and electrical design work are required for the DNO substation and metering cupboard, crucial to handle the new electrical demands.

The upgrade all includes a new transformer room to power to the maintenance buildings. One of the power supplies is dedicated to the Wheel Lathe Facility, ensuring it receives the necessary power through a dual-fed distribution board located in the new switch room.

CRMS

As part of the upgrade, the Cockfosters Depot Cable Route Management System (CRMS) needs updating to capture outstanding cable routes. Genesis are undertaking detailed design work to ensure the proper routing and containment for LVAC lighting mains and HVAC cabling.
