Designing Driver Access Platforms

Concept and detailed designs for Drive Access Platforms at Heathrow T5 and Acton Stations.

overview

Genesis have been undertaking concept and detailed design work for Driver Access Platforms across two stations: Heathrow Terminal 5, and Acton Town.

Conceptual Designs

The initial stage of the project was to create a “reference design” for the ideal Driver Access Platform using CAD. Genesis then produced four Concept Design Statements (CDSs), two for each station, Heathrow T5 and Acton. Each site received one CDS focusing on civil and premises considerations, and another addressing system aspects, including electrical and mechanical systems, lighting, communications, signal interfaces, and plungers. Each CDS included site-specific layout drawings and detailed specifications tailored to the requirements of each location, preparing for the detailed design work that followed.

Detailed Designs

With the conceptual designs in place, the project advanced to the detailed design phase, aiming to create actionable plans that addressed site-specific constraints. This phase produced seven location-specific concept reference drawings, civil support drawings, layout drawings, and civil assesments with detailed calculations for each site.

Key elements also included the development of location-specific Cutting Drilling & Fixing Logs (CDFLs) and clearance applications, ensuring practical implementation. The phase also specified enabling works and modifications of interfacing assets. A Verification and Validation (V&V) report confirmed compliance with the Technical Requirements Specification (TRS).
